As an educator, I bring my broad and varied experiences in art and design together to create an environment and process for learning.

My teaching methodologies include:

• Creating a culture of inquiry in the classroom

• Encourage healthy dialogue around relevant design issues and methodologies

• Teach to concept, with a strong focus on context

• Socially conscious projects (recent shift)

• Focus on design thinking while developing craft

• Using visual research methodologies

• Human centered design

• Involving non-designers in the innovation process

• Making innovation a priority

• Hands on studios, one on one time with each student

• Using critiques as a critical part of the learning process

• Mentoring, with portfolio development as a particular strength

• Strong understanding of color as it relates to both product and space

• Treat each student as if you were developing a brand

• Getting out into the world, especially for research and field trips

• Making meaningful form

• Sustainability with a focus on materials and design and product development

Ideas I would like to explore further in the future:

• Concept validation with iterative prototyping

• Develop new experimentation & research methods

• Partnerships with organizations for socially conscious design projects

• Interdisciplinary projects/processes

• More case study discussions – focus on “design thinking”
